TP Line’s Kolovare works the Lastovo lifeline route to Split and calls at Hvar on the way. It is a genuine public service rather than a tourist boat, which explains both the fare and the hour.

What it costs and how to book

Around €11 per person, which is a quarter of what a tourist catamaran of the same length would charge. It is subsidised because Lastovo is remote and people live there.

Boarding is at Ubli, the ferry port on the west of Lastovo, not in Lastovo village itself — those are ten kilometres and about fifteen minutes apart, and there is no bus at four in the morning.

Seats are rarely a problem at that hour, but book anyway: it is one boat, and if it is full there is no second.

Arriving in Hvar town

You arrive on the Hvar town riva at quarter past six in the morning, which is the best hour of the day there and one almost nobody sees.

Nothing is open except the bakery, and check-in anywhere is hours away. Take the walk up to the Fortica while it is cool; the view over the Pakleni islands at that hour is the reason to have taken this boat.

Left luggage is not really a thing in Hvar town. If you are arriving this early, message your accommodation the day before and ask if you can drop bags.

Good to know before you sail

Lastovo is a nature park and one of the darkest night skies in Europe. Almost nobody goes, which is the point, and the price of that is a timetable built for residents.

Coming the other way, Hvar to Lastovo, there is no direct boat. The realistic route is Hvar to Split or Korčula and onward, with an overnight in between.

This is a working boat with an aeroplane-style cabin. Bring a jumper; the air conditioning at four in the morning is not gentle.
