Vira beach

Vira is a deep, sheltered bay on the north side of the island, four kilometres from Hvar town, with a pebble beach inside the campsite of the same name. The northern exposure keeps the water calm on days when the south side chops up, and the campsite brings showers, a beach bar and easy parking. A local favourite for unhurried family days.

The road down from the Hvar to Stari Grad turn-off ends at the campsite reception, and the beach is a short walk below it. Parking is easy outside the peak weeks, and the water deepens gently from the pebbles, which suits swimmers of every age.

Plan a long, slow afternoon: pine shade behind the beach, showers and a cold drink at the bar, and a bay that stays calm on days when the south coast is windy.
