Catamarans tie up on the riva in the middle of Hvar town, not at an out-of-town terminal. You step off the boat, and the main square, the Franciscan monastery and most of the hotels are a five to ten minute walk in either direction.
Taxis and porters wait at the pier in season. If your accommodation is up the hill, ask for a taxi rather than dragging a suitcase up the steps: the old town is stairs, all of it, and no car reaches most of it.
If you are heading on to Jelsa, Stari Grad or the south coast, buses meet the main arrivals, and a taxi across the island takes 20 to 35 minutes.
