Ivan Dolac is a small village on the sunny south shore of Hvar, with pebble beaches and clear blue water looking across to the islet of Scedro and the island of Korcula. Steep Plavac Mali vineyards climb to about 350 m directly above the houses.

You reach it from Jelsa through the village of Pitve and the famous tunnel: 1.4 km, single lane and unlit, with traffic lights at each end regulating one way traffic. The drive is an experience in itself.

The village has a few cafe bars, konobas and restaurants in season. It suits guests who want quiet swimming and local wine: Ivan Dolac is one of Croatia's best known red wine appellations.
