Between Jelsa and Vrboska, some 4 km apart, a chain of small swimming coves lines the wooded shore of the Vitarnja area: little pebble pockets, flat rocks and stone plates under tall pines that lean towards the sea.

The quiet coastal road between the two towns is the way in, on foot or by bike, with pine shade for most of the route; from Vrboska you pass the ACI marina. Local names along this stretch include Tisno, Kriz, Balun, Paklena and Glavica.

Most of these coves have no facilities at all, which is their charm: you pick a rock shelf under the pines and have a near private bathing spot. For coffee or lunch you walk back into Vrboska or Jelsa.
