Kapetan Luka (Krilo) and TP Line both work this stretch of the coastal route, which is why there are five departures rather than the usual one or two. The Krilo boats are the quick ones at an hour and ten; TP Line takes an hour and a half.

What it costs and how to book

About €25 per person one way on every sailing, whichever operator you take. The difference is twenty minutes of crossing time, not money.

These are through boats running the Dubrovnik–Split coastal route, so you are joining a service that is already part full. Book ahead in July and August, especially the two Krilo departures.

Boats leave from Korčula town waterfront. Some services use the west quay by the old town walls and some the east; the ticket tells you which, and the two are five minutes apart.

Arriving in Hvar town

You land on the Hvar town riva. The Pjaca, the cathedral and the Fortica path are all a few minutes away on foot, and the Pakleni taxi boats leave from the same quay.

If you are continuing to the rest of the island, the bus station is behind the riva. Services to Stari Grad and Jelsa are infrequent, so check before you land rather than after.

Two walled Dalmatian towns in one day is a lot of stone. If you have the time, break the trip — Hvar rewards a second morning.

Good to know before you sail

With five sailings a day this is the one island crossing in Dalmatia you can treat casually. Turn up, buy a ticket, go — except in the first fortnight of August, when you cannot.

The route continues to Split in one direction and to Mljet and Dubrovnik in the other, which makes Hvar an easy stop on a longer island chain rather than a detour.

With a car there is no direct link. Vehicles go Korčula to Orebić and up the Pelješac peninsula, or back through Split.
