What it costs and how to book

About €25 per person each way on every departure. Passengers only; a car stays on Hvar.

Out on the 09:10 and back on the 17:40 gives you roughly seven hours in Korčula, which is enough for the old town, the Marco Polo story, lunch and a swim.

Book both legs together in high season. The late-afternoon returns are the ones that sell out, and they are exactly the ones a day trip depends on.

Arriving in Korčula

Korčula town is a walled peninsula of grey stone laid out like a fish skeleton: one spine street with ribs running off it, angled to break the wind. You walk off the boat and you are at the gate.

Everything worth seeing is inside twenty minutes of walking. Beyond the walls, the beaches are east along the shore or a short taxi to Lumbarda, which also makes the island’s white wine.

For the mainland, the little ferry to Orebić on Pelješac runs constantly and takes fifteen minutes — a useful escape if you want to see the wine villages.

Good to know before you sail

This is the crossing that makes an island chain possible: Hvar, Korčula, Mljet and Dubrovnik all sit on the same coastal service, so you can keep going south without ever returning to Split.

Some sailings use the west quay at Korčula and some the east. It is a five-minute walk between them, but worth knowing when you are watching a boat you thought was yours.

If you want to see Korčula properly rather than tick it off, stay a night. The old town after the day boats leave is a different place.
