What it costs and how to book

About €15 per person one way, whichever operator you pick. That makes it the cheapest way to cross between Brač and Hvar, and cheaper than most Split departures.

Passengers only. There is no vehicle deck on any of these boats, so a car stays on Brač and goes back through Supetar and Split.

With three sailings you have some slack, but in the first half of August the afternoon boat is the one that fills. Book it a few days ahead and stop worrying.

Arriving in Hvar town

You land on the Hvar town riva, in the centre of everything: the Pjaca is three minutes away, the Fortica path starts behind the cathedral, and the Pakleni taxi boats leave from the same quay.

There are no cars in the old town, so if you have heavy luggage arrange a porter or a taxi to the edge of the pedestrian zone before you arrive.

If you are staying outside Hvar town — Jelsa, Stari Grad, Vrboska — the island bus leaves from the station a short walk behind the riva, and the timetable is thin, so check it before you land.

Good to know before you sail

Milna sits in a deep sheltered inlet on the west end of Brač, which is why the crossing here is calmer than the one from Bol on the exposed south coast.

These are through boats. The Krilo continues to Split in one direction and down the coast in the other, so do not be surprised if the boat is already half full when it arrives.

If you are sailing your own boat, Milna is a marina town and the crossing to Hvar is an easy two hours under power — but the catamaran is faster and you keep the mooring.
