What it costs and how to book

About €28 per person one way on the summer schedule. Passengers only; there is no vehicle deck on this boat.

The 08:45 out and the 19:35 back give you a full day on Vis — long enough for Komiža, a swim at Stiniva or Srebrna, and dinner before the boat. It is one of the best day trips from Hvar and it does not involve an organised tour.

Book the return at the same time. The evening sailing back to Hvar is the busiest boat on the route.

Arriving in Vis

The boat ties up on the Vis town waterfront, a long curve of stone houses that was a closed military port until 1989 and still feels like somewhere that was left alone for forty years.

Komiža, on the other side of the island, is twenty-five minutes by road and the departure point for Biševo and the Blue Cave. Buses meet some arrivals; scooters and taxis are easier.

Stiniva, the cove that wins the best-beach lists every other year, is on the south coast and reached either by a steep path or, more sensibly, by boat.

Good to know before you sail

If you only do one island trip from Hvar, this is the one. Vis is close, it is genuinely different, and the timetable actually allows a proper day there.

The Blue Cave excursions sold on the Hvar riva spend most of their day getting to Biševo and back. Going to Vis yourself and booking the cave locally is cheaper and far less rushed.

Two sailings a day means no margin. If the evening boat is cancelled for weather you are staying the night, so keep the accommodation number handy in June and September.
