The last boat of the day usually leaves Hvar in the early evening. There is nothing scheduled after that, so a late flight out of Split means either a private transfer or a night on the mainland.

What it costs and how to book

The fare is the same in both directions: about €23 to €25 one way on the direct crossings, from €15 on the slower Krilo boat via Milna. Buy online rather than at the small Hvar ticket window, which has a queue and a cash-only reputation in high season.

Book the morning departures early. Everyone leaving the island on a Saturday in August wants the same two boats, and they sell out days ahead.

If you are connecting to a flight, do not take the last possible catamaran. A cancelled or delayed boat leaves you with no scheduled option, and Split airport is another 40 minutes from the port.

Arriving in Split

Catamarans dock in the passenger port on the eastern side of Split harbour, a five to ten minute walk from Diocletian’s Palace and the same from the bus and train stations. It is one of the easiest ferry arrivals in the Adriatic: you walk off the boat into the middle of the city.

Split airport is 25 km away at Kaštela, roughly 30 to 40 minutes by shuttle bus or taxi depending on traffic. Buses meet most arrivals in summer.

If you have hours to spare before a flight, leave the luggage at the port storage and walk into the old town rather than sitting at the terminal.

Good to know before you leave

Be on the riva 20 minutes early in August. Boarding is by gangway from the quay and the queue for a busy departure builds fast, especially with the group tours.

Foot passengers only. If you brought a car to the island it goes back on the ferry from Stari Grad or Sućuraj, not on this boat.

Check out of your accommodation in time for the crossing you booked, not the one after it. In peak season there is rarely a spare seat on the next departure.
