What it costs and how to book

Per vehicle plus per passenger, with the current fares on the Jadrolinija site. A car with four people is usually cheaper than four catamaran seats, and you keep the boot.

Buy the return leg before you need it. The Saturday morning crossings in August fill with departing rental cars, and the queue at the Stari Grad ramp starts well before the ship arrives.

The ticket reserves your vehicle space on that sailing, so being there forty minutes early is enough. Turning up without a ticket in peak season is how people miss flights.

Arriving in Split

Car ferries dock on the main city quay, minutes from Diocletian’s Palace and the bus station, and the exit puts you straight onto the coastal road or the motorway ramp within ten minutes.

Split airport is 25 km west at Kaštela, about half an hour by car outside rush hour. If you are returning a rental car, most desks are at the airport rather than in town.

If you sail on the 23:00, remember that Split at one in the morning is quiet but not closed: the ferry terminal cafes stay open for the night crossings.

Good to know before you leave

Fill the tank on the island if you are driving on. Fuel on Hvar is not cheaper, but the queue at the port petrol station on a Saturday is shorter than the one you will hit on the mainland.

The ferry runs in weather that stops the catamarans, so if the forecast is bad and you have a flight, this is the crossing to be on.

Foot passengers can use it too, and often should: it is cheaper than the catamaran and only forty minutes slower.
