Villa Nora hides in the stone lanes at Petra Hektorovica 3, right beside the main square, inside a palace built in the 14th century for the aristocratic Gazzari family. The writer Marin Gazarovic was born in the house in 1575 and a plaque outside still marks it.
Today it is a small heritage hotel where breakfast, with homemade cakes and eggs to order, is served on a stone walled terrace, and the Lucullus restaurant on the first floor cooks island classics. Staff famously meet guests at the ferry and walk their luggage through the alleys.
It suits romantics and history lovers who value character over facilities; there is no pool, the harbour is two minutes away, and recent guests rate the stay among the very best on the island.
