Milna

About 5 kilometers from the town of Hvar or 10 kilometers from the island’s Old Town harbor, on a sandy beach, slowly emerges and expands around its beaches the small tourist oasis of “Milna.” In a protected bay, it already has about a hundred permanent residents and along the shore, there are seven privately maintained restaurant locations offering a rich culinary selection. The entire bay is surrounded by vast pine forests.

The old core is actually a “summer residence” in “peace and quiet” without office buildings or Hvar nobles from the 17th century, but it features characteristics of a small fortress, a castle. Two kilometers further, invisible from the sea, lies the now abandoned village of Malo Grablje, which once had access to the sea here. The beaches Velika Milna and Mala Milna are sandy and within the village itself, while Velo Borče and Malo Borče beaches are just a little further with attractive rocky outcrops. The locals are actively and imaginatively engaged mostly in tourism.

From Milna, organized boat trips to surrounding islands are offered, including the Blue Cave on Biševo. However, a unique excursion involves donkeys to the uninhabited Malo Grablje, which is gradually being restored and where in summer, concerts with a very demanding setup and number of performers are organized, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
